December Sam
We haven't posted since Ireland, so here's an update on what Sam's been up to of late. After a few first, cautious steps in Ireland, Sam started walking in earnest just before Thanksgiving. He's now a man on the move. Following are some recent days in the life of Sam Q.
This is a video we took this morning (Dec. 16th). Sam continues to be nuts about trucks and tractors and here he shares some of his in depth truck knowledge. (I, too, have learned a great deal about trucks these last couple of months!)
This past week we went to the Gilroys for a little holiday cheer. Macy loves to help feed Sam and keep an eye on his progress.
Our friends the Andersons were also at the Gilroys, so Sam and his buddy Gus got to hang out and catch up on old times. (They're just two weeks apart!)
Yesterday we went to Pete's Hair Shoppe on Maine Street and Sam got his very first haircut from Barber Pete himself. After a few moments of initial terror, Sam settled in long enough to get the job done...(thanks to Dad's animated reading and Mom's enthusiastic renditions of Jingle Bells and the like).
Sam is looking like quite the school boy now with his new cut. Barber Pete did a wonderful job and earned himself a new client.

We enjoyed a beautiful snowstorm today and put up our Christmas tree. Sam kept repeating, "pweety twee!"... "twee fall down!". Ever since learning to walk and taking regular spills he's been very tuned into things "falling down".
We took a nice walk across a snowy Bowdoin campus, and were excited to see a lot of plow trucks along the way.

Ireland, November 07
Recently we were lucky enough to travel as a family to Ireland for a week long get away. We rented a small cottage in Doolin, about 4 miles from the Cliffs of Moher, on the west coast of Ireland. Overall, Sam was a great little traveler and seemed to enjoy all the new sights, smells, and sounds, (i.e. tractors, peat fires, farm animals). At the end of the photos you'll find a video we took while walking in Connemara. It's a little long (3 minutes), and a bit slow in the middle section, but gives you an idea of where we traveled.
Climbing on the ruins of an old abbey in Cong. (Cong is where they filmed John Wayne in "The Quiet Man").
The hills of Connemara.
Chatting with a local farmer.
Sam couldn't get enough of the ever ubiquitous tractor. "Tractor", "bulldozer", and "backhoe" are his new favorite words.
Overlooking Galway Bay and the River Shannon.

Washington State
We island hopped from Guemes to Cypress Island where Gabe's family has built a beautiful beach cabin.
Whipping cream for our dessert. If you ever find yourself on an island without an electric mixer, a drill and whisk works just fine!
