The boys on Sam's first day of his second year of preschool, September 2010. He is appropriately "winged" and ready for take off.
The Common Ground Fair is a favorite fall outing here in Maine. It is a HUGE fair put on by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. Among dozens of fair offerings one might choose to watch border collies herd sheep, learn to spin yarn, listen to a lecture on composting with worms, buy a hand carved bowl, dance to the fiddle or indulge in a gourmet smoothie. Or, in our case, you might spend most of the day in the kids activity area pounding nails, painting, felting and jumping in hay.
Traffic to the fair can be a bit of a hassle so we opted to park several miles out and bike to the fair. I rode my own bike while Kevin carried Sam in a seat on his bike and pulled Jack in a trailer behind. What we thought was the designated bike route to the fair turned out to be the designated "mountain bike route". Needless to say, we had a very exciting ride that took us through trails and mud puddles, over rocks and roots...and finally to the fair entrance, where all bikers are met with ringing cowbells and cheers. It turned out to be quite a fun ride and, indeed, the highlight of our day.
Sam made friends with some musicians who generously let him try out their mandolin.
Jack spent much of his time at the fair eating fruit. That empty pint container had been full of blueberries!
Although a champion crawler Jack didn't start walking until 16 months. Thus the red wagon proved key to his mobility for quite awhile.
As you can imagine, working on bikes is a common activity around here.
